Fall Fun!

This past Saturday, we took a break from trim installation in the basement, and took the kids to a local dairy farm for some fall fun! It was VERY close (about 10 minutes away!), and a million times more fun than we ever expected! It was VERY chilly, (58!), and there was absolutely NO sun. However, after 7+ years of living in states that only offer summer weather - we were THRILLED to finally experience FALL!

First up was the corn maze!

They had a big pit full of dried corn kernels - super fun to dig around in, and much cleaner than a sand box!

Hunter even got to do the zip-line! I was really impressed by his bravery!

After the zipline, we went on a hayride - by the time we were done, we needed a warm-up! We headed to the snack trailer and ordered hot chocolates and s'mores - we received our drinks and then the snack lady handed Hunter his s'more...

I must have had a weird/confused look on my face, because she said "You take that down to the fire pits and roast it yourself" - AWESOME! Even better!!

So we made our way to the fire pits and got toasty - what could be better on a chilly fall day??

After our toasty snack, we played around on some of the play structures (seen in the very top picture), and slid down some huge slides together. I don't have pictures of that, because I was busy playing too :o)

It was a great morning, filled with fall memories!

Hunter Turns 6 - Part I

Another birthday is here! Can you believe Hunter is six years old??

~

This year, he asked for a military themed birthday -

He woke up to some cool signs and a custom dog-tag made just for him, and a staircase full of balloons!

~

We tied each group of three balloons to a new die-cast jet! We also gave him a new set of 'military guys'

~

A few of the jets were not heavy enough to hold the balloons down, but Justin and I felt that made it even COOLER!

We are not fans of crazy loud, 10-million kid birthday parties - instead, we let Hunter bring his best bud along for some birthday morning breakfast and go-karts!

We picked up Nick, and headed to Cracker Barrel for a birthday breakfast

It was a beautiful fall morning, so we let the boys sit and play checkers for a little while after we ate

Not too far from our house, there is a place called 'Adventure Crossing'. It is right next to the highway, and Hunter spotted it the day we moved here, and has been patiently waiting for his birthday since then!

I think all kids deserve to feel like this on their birthday!!

Since we were there at 10:30am, the place was empty! Hunter and Nick had the whole place to themselves (which was a million times better than swimming through a sea of screaming children coming down off their sugar high!!) It was really relaxed, the weather was beautiful, and all of our attention was on the main man! (Our friend and neighbor had Morgan for the morning!)

After go-karts, Hunter and Nick rode the roller coaster (again, they had it all to themselves!)

We also took a few spins on the medium-size track with the double cars (there is a third track, and it requires a driver's license!)

And finally, a round of mini-golf!

The boys did great, and Justin only had to recover one wild ball! (there was lots of water, so this was a concern!)

We capped off the morning with a sonic slushie for the ride home!

Hunter Turns 6, Part II

After a morning of go-kart fun, we came home and crashed for a couple of hours before the official festivities began. At dinner time, we had neighbors over for pizza, games, cake, and presents!

I'm not sure what this game is supposed to be called, but instead of pin the tail on the donkey, it's pin the tank on the target, or something like that!

Our next party game was Sergeant Says! (you know, like Simon says). We just happened to have a real live sergeant on hand, and he did an awesome job!

All of the kids wore their dad's cover to the party!

After games, it was time for cake! Hunter's request this year was a battlefield cake, with guys and vehicles, and he did NOT want the cake to say 'Happy Birthday Hunter' - I think we delivered :o)

All in all it was a great day! I can't believe he's SIX!

The Battcave

Yes, we're still here!! After two+ months of internet company incompetency, we are back ONLINE! (Do I hear angels singing??)

We are loving our new home, but I will not post pictures right now, because there are NO rooms that are complete. NONE. Why, you ask? Well, every spare minute we have has been spent on one area of the house -819 square feet of unfinished potential- I give you,

THE BATTCAVE!

And this gem is our new school room! (I daydream about this room, I am so excited about it!)

With the help of family and friends, we've spent our first two months as homeowners framing, drywalling, painting, etc, and we are ALMOST DONE.

~

Once the basement is finished, our whole living room will move down there, leaving an empty living room upstairs. In addition, all of our office and school things, which are currently housed in the master bedroom, will also move downstairs, to the school room. So maybe by next year, well be settled in enough for me to post pictures :o)
